How does a lead-based Paint Inspection differ from lead-based paint Risk Assessment?

According to EPA and HUD guidelines, a lead-based paint Inspection is designed to sample and analyze the lead content of every painted surface in a building or home. TORF Environmental Management believes that this is especially helpful prior to renovation or demolition, or for owners with multiple properties or units. The "Inspection" tests paint for lead content, inside and outside the structure.

A lead-based paint Risk Assessment is designed to identify the potential and amount of lead exposure from painted surfaces. TORF Environmental Management believes that this is especially useful for individuals and families to answer the question—How safe is this building/house/unit with respect to lead exposure, even if lead-based paint is present? The "Assessment" tests dust inside the structure and soil outside the structure for lead content.
